What the job involves
- Removal of an old backsplash or laminate return, and wall repair behind it
- Layout centred on the range or the sink, planned so cuts land where you do not look

Kitchen backsplashes questions
- Can you tile over the existing backsplash?
- It is possible but rarely worth it. Removing the old tile gives a flat wall and a cleaner edge at the counter and the cabinets.
- Subway, zellige or mosaic?
- Subway is the easiest to keep clean and the most forgiving to lay. Zellige is handmade and varies on purpose, which is the appeal and the thing to expect. Mosaic sheets suit small areas and need more grout maintenance.
- Do the outlets need work?
- Yes. The boxes get extended so the covers sit flush with the new tile. That is part of the job, not an extra.
- How is the edge finished where the tile stops?
- Metal or matching trim, a bullnose, or a clean pencil edge, depending on the tile. It is decided in the layout, not improvised at the end.
- Can I use the kitchen during the work?
- Mostly yes. The counters are covered and the sink is usually back in service the same day.
